Mikahla & Keith

River Uplands Farm in Millboro, Virginia was the perfect backdrop for this beautiful May wedding. Owned by a longtime Bath County resident, the farm consists of a renovated farmhouse (with all the accommodations), a reception barn with covered patios, limitless pastures, and a beautiful river cabin. Ceremony sites include pasture with grazing horses, “wedding trees”, the farmhouse, or river pavilion . I could write an entire blog dedicated to this venue alone. On this day, however, a pasture site beneath the “wedding tree” was the perfect pick

Under clear blue skies and fields full of blooming buttercups, family and friends gathered to watch Mikahla and Keith’s decade-long love story begin a new chapter. Perfectly curated music ushered in a bridal party in vibrant shades of blues and pinks, grandparents, anxious parents and a giddy flower girl and ring bearer. The groom walked the aisle to whistles and applause, while Mikahla’s grand entrance from behind closed doors truly enamored the crowd. Her entrance was serenaded by “When I Say I Do Today” by Carolyn Miller - a special surprise for Keith.

A very personal ceremony was conducted by Pastor Lloyd and involved a unity ceremony that quite literally involved braiding/tying a knot. The recession down the aisle was christened with bubbles - a simple but classic touch that I’m almost certain will create photos to enchant for a lifetime.

Cocktail hour saw an array of fruits, crudités, cheeses and charcuterie while the drinks began to flow in anticipation for dinner and dancing. What joy to see old friends and family reunite over food and drinks.

After the couples introduction to the reception, a lighthearted yet competitive game of beer pong was played between the bride and groom; a cute nod to how they met. Keith may have won that round, but Mikahla would have her revenge later in the evening. Stay tuned. A self-service dinner consisted of locally sourced venison, pork and chicken with savory sides to match. A meal that would benefit local first responders.

A beautiful display of cake and cupcakes by Cupcake Company (Harrisonburg) held everyone’s attention for most of the night. Before anyone was allowed to indulge, however, Keith and Mikahla cut their decadent carrot cake. Remember the revenge I mentioned previously? Mikahla won a crowd-sourced donation contest for “Cake in the Face” displayed during cocktail hour. She certainly relished in smearing that cake in Keith’s face; to the thrill of the crowd of course. Highlights of dessert involved chocolate cheesecake, chocolate raspberry, pineapple-upside-down, lemon raspberry and red velvet cupcakes. Rave reviews were certainly overheard.

As the dancing continued and the night progressed jovially with friends and loved ones, Keith surprised Mikahla with a fireworks display. It was a lovely way to send off a quite successful wedding in a beautiful location. Now that the stress of the day had fleeted, Mikahla and Keith would be looking forward to spending time together in Jamaica.

We thank Mikahla and Keith for allowing us to be apart of their day and taking a chance on our newly budding business. Three weddings under our belt now- I think we may be getting the hang of this thing. We wish you a lifetime of happiness and success. Cheers to you two!
