Luci & Devon
“Luci is Back in Town”
“What is meant for you will always be yours, and it will come to you at the best time and in the best moment.” I am a true believer in fate and, for the many reasons I will share in this post, this quote frequented my mind throughout our precious time working with Luci and Devon this past summer. Their love story is one of false starts, misconnections, reconnections and ultimately a real-life testament of love always finding its way.
Before I get to the good part (Luci and Devon’s wedding, of course!) Jamee and I wanted to acknowledge our dear new friend, Whitney at The Taubman Museum of Art. As many of you know, Jamee and I took a chance in the “wedding-world” in early 2023. Although that leap of faith was scary, little did we know that others taking a chance on us would be even more frightening. Would we do well? What if we mess everything up? What if we never book a wedding? Can we handle the details? All realistic worries for sure, but as we trusted the process, Whitney was trusting us. Graciously, she recommended us to Luci and Devon and we quickly found ourselves preparing for yet another wedding at The Taubman in downtown Roanoke, VA. Our serendipitous meeting with Whitney at our first wedding in April had proven to be a fruitful one for our business this year. Right person, right place and right timing, I’d like to believe. Jamee and I owe a gigantic THANK YOU to Whitney for some of our own personal “best moments” this year.
OK! OK! Enough about us. The moment you’ve all been waiting for: Introducing Luci and Devon. Mr. And Mrs. Cartwright. Everett’s Mom and Dad (most importantly). Unlike our other couples this year, we had no previous connection to Luci, Devon or their families. In meeting them on-site in July, however, it was as if we had known them for years. Luci’s kind and joyous aura lit the large museum atrium that day. Meanwhile, the ease at which Devon navigated the ins and outs of endless wedding-planning-demands was to be admired. Together, it was easy to see that they were the perfect duo, the real deal. Excitedly working through the planning process together, wedding day could not come fast enough for us all! It was sure to be a stunner.
On a sunny, clear cerulean-sky, late- summer Saturday afternoon, the Taubman was outfitted for yet another envious wedding. I could spend days talking about Luci and Devon’s timeless decor, the bountiful floral arrangements, the immaculate groomsmen attire, the breathtaking wedding gown, the most handsome ring-bearer ever, the music, the gourmet-level menu options and the Bahamian-theme desserts, but two things stood out above it all for Jamee and I:
First, Devon & Luci’s mutual love and adoration amidst their family and friends. The love in the room that day was palpable. Guests who traveled far and wide, from Canada to California to the Bahamas, wouldn’t have been anywhere else in the world. Luci and Devon certainly had their best people, in their best moment.
Second, the unwavering love that Devon and Luci shared for one another. As highlighted in a toast by Devon’s dapper best man, it was a love story for the ages. Two acquainted athletes at NC State (Go State!) who went their separate ways, but ultimately found their way back to one another and reconnected 10 years later. What a fateful night in Raleigh. Luci was definitely back in town! The rest? Well, that’s history. It’s a love story that epitomizes “What is meant for you will always be yours.” How can you not believe in true love after THAT? So forward, upward and onward together Mr. and Mrs. Cartwright. Here’s to YOU!
With love,
Tripp & Jamee
